Matthew is the hands and heart behind every piece. A trained gemmologist and master jeweller, he brings decades of experience and an artist’s eye to his craft. From sourcing rare stones to shaping precious metals, his work is meticulous, meaningful, and deeply personal.
Simone is the storyteller. With a rich tapestry of experience spanning fashion, retail, technology, and photography, she brings a discerning eye and intuitive grace to every detail. She captures the essence of each creation and ensures the brand reflects the beauty behind the scenes. She’s the quiet force driving the business forward—balancing strategy, customer care, and the magic that happens beyond the bench.

Gemmologist ( FGAA) , Master Goldsmith, Designer
At the heart of MJS Jewellery is Matthew Staff—a master jeweller, award-winning designer, and qualified gemmologist (FGAA) with over 30 years of experience. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and timeless design aesthetic, Matthew creates pieces that are as enduring as the stories they tell.
His passion for natural gemstones runs deep. From the gem fields of Tanzania to the cutting houses of Idar-Oberstein in Germany, Matthew has travelled the world in search of rare stones and deeper knowledge. His designs are shaped not only by technical mastery but by a profound respect for the raw beauty of nature. Every gem he selects is chosen for its character, energy, and potential to become something extraordinary.
Matthew’s designs have earned national recognition. His gents ring “Sprung” was a finalist in the 2012 Jewellery Association of Australia Awards, and his earring design “Flame” won the prestigious Diamond Guild Australia Award in 2018. Due to popular demand, he later released a petite version—“Flame Petite.
When he’s not at the bench, you’ll likely find Matthew outdoors—hiking through mountain trails, exploring remote landscapes, and reconnecting with the natural world that inspires his work. These moments in nature fuel his creativity and ground his belief in the value of things made slowly, thoughtfully, and by hand.
“I want to show people that we can still make beautiful things by hand—and that they can last a lifetime,” says Matthew. “A good design is timeless.”
