Sprung — JAA Designer Awards Finalist (2012) Inspired by Matthew’s award‑finalist piece of the same name from the Australasian Jewellery Awards, Sprung was conceived as a distinctive men’s ring shaped by engineering principles — particularly the elegant simplicity of a single wire forming a spring coil.
The result is a beautifully engineered design with an industrial edge and a modern architectural presence. Neither round nor square, but a fusion of both, Sprung is formed through the interlocking, folding, and weaving of 18ct gold back upon itself. At its centre, it proudly holds a baguette‑cut Australian Black Sapphire, suspended within the structure.
Available in 18ct white gold (with or without a black rhodium finish) and the increasingly popular 18ct rose gold.
Originally created with a diamond, Sprung is equally suited to sapphires and other precious gemstones. It remains one of Matthew’s most commissioned men’s designs, with many personalized interpretations crafted over the years.
Available via commission. POA.
